My father, Willis Aye, put me on an old John Deere model B tractor at the age of 10. I planted sweet corn and then, after it matured, I sold it on the street. Years passed and I always would try something different. I got married, raised a son and took a construction job that I held for 20 years. But I never stopped selling veggies on the weekends at the local Farmers Market.
The farm where I grow Montana Giant Garlic was purchased by my Grandpa, John Aye, in 1968 and has been passed down to me. We are located 2 miles south of Miles City in a horseshoe bend alongside the beautiful Tongue River, which over many years of flooding and decay, has created an unusual sandy loam we call a “handly” soil type.
